Clown Characters are totally unique to any other characters that exist in the entertainment industry. While we have some similarities in personality traits, we are essentially different. While in Movies or TV shows, characters are written and then portrayed by actors & actresses; Each person who becomes a clown may take a class in character development, to bring certain real traits about themselves  out and then exaggerate them. This character is a real person, with dreams, feelings, likes & dislikes. These characters change as the person changes... We learn skills to have fun with and for work. These characters are consistent throughout any activities they may be involved in.  Where as you may see an actor portray one character in one movie and then a different character in another. there is no physical substance to their characters. While one person can play two clown characters, these characters are still very much real.

Many characters are inspired by characters they see in TV and Movies, like cartoon characters. they may take certain characteristics they like and apply them, but if it doesn't fit the real character of the person, it doesn't seem to work properly and stay consistent.

Character is an important aspect to the clown. Much more important than the makeup and costume. Anyone can dress as a clown, but it takes a special person to have a character.
